Frequently Asked Questions

Understanding the Single-Cycle system is crucial for international applicants. Here is everything you need to know.

What exactly is a "Single-Cycle Master's Degree"?

In Italy, a Single-Cycle Master's Degree (Laurea Magistrale a Ciclo Unico) is a continuous program that combines Bachelor's and Master's level studies into one seamless curriculum. It lasts 5 years (300 ECTS) for Law, Pharmacy, and Education, or 6 years (360 ECTS) for Medicine and Dentistry. You do not need to earn a Bachelor's degree first; you enroll directly after high school and graduate with a Master's-equivalent degree.

Do I need a Bachelor's degree to apply?

No. You only need a valid high school diploma obtained after at least 12 years of schooling. International students with 10 or 11 years of schooling must first complete a Foundation Year program.

Are there admission tests?

Yes. Because these programs lead to highly regulated professions, courses like Medicine, Dentistry, and Primary Education have a strictly limited number of spots and require passing a mandatory selective entrance exam. Law programs generally require an evaluation of your academic background and an orientation interview.

Is the degree recognized internationally?

Yes. These degrees are fully compliant with the Bologna Process and the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). Medicine and Dentistry degrees strictly follow EU directives, allowing graduates to practice or seek specialization across Europe and globally (subject to local board regulations).
